This application offers support for over 36 languages, providing users with the ability to have text spoken aloud in diverse linguistic contexts. It features visual highlighting of the current word during speech, with the highlighted word following the spoken output, enhancing comprehension and learning. The app continues narration in the background while other applications are in use, which can be beneficial for multitasking.

New integration with iOS 9 allows speech to persist across different activities, and foreign language pronunciations are delivered with accuracy, aiding language acquisition. Users can adjust speech parameters such as speed, pitch, and volume within the settings menu to tailor the listening experience.

By pasting translated text into the app, selecting the appropriate language, and initiating playback, users can hear correct pronunciation models. The interface supports input through pasting, typing, or dictation to generate speech via various high-quality Text to Speech voices.

Compatibility with Apple TV Remote enables control over speech playback through familiar buttons. Sharing features allow documents to be transferred via AirDrop, email, messaging, and integration with Notes or other apps for seamless workflows.

Text size is adjustable through iOS’s Dynamic Type settings at Settings > General > Accessibility > Larger Type, catering to user comfort and accessibility needs. The app can read aloud emails, RSS feeds, news articles, or any text copied into it, providing a versatile reading tool.

One practical application involves proofreading documents such as resumes, biographies, or professional emails; listening to the content can reveal grammatical or spelling errors that might be overlooked visually. Users can add new documents to their iCloud Library via the bookmarks button; these files synchronize across devices including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Apple Watch for flexible access and editing.

The app supports a broad spectrum of languages and voices; for language learners, this feature is particularly valuable for practicing pronunciation by inputting relevant text in the target language. Adjustments for larger text are possible through iOS Accessibility Settings under Dynamic Type for improved readability.

Additionally, Text Reader is compatible with Accessibility features such as VoiceOver—users can utilize gestures like Magic Tap to pause or play speech—making it suitable for users with different needs.
